History

In Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, the wool-textile business was established. Traditionally, the industry was focused on cottage and spinning and weaving mostly happened in the same structure. Huddersfield became associated with fine woolen and, later, quality woolen cloth production. For over 600 years, the supply of woolen garments has been a major industry in England. The Lord Chancellor of England still resides today in a woolsack in the House of Lords. The British, manufactured on the Huddersfield name, is related to the finest woolen fabric and the worsted cloth. Many people living in cool and low-temperature countries still view it as the perfect fabric. The techniques of turning raw wool into fabric have improved considerably over the years. It remains an industry in which the independent craftsman is of considerable significance.
